The top men shirt fashion trends for Spring/Summer 2020-2021

Table of Contents

At the beginning of every January and June, the world’s fashion press and buyers decamp to the international capitals of culture and commerce – London, New York, Paris, and Milan – to take in all the big new trends for men from the world’s most important designers.

To give you a head start on the trends that most struck a chord – and help you cut through to what you need to know about and, in turn, what you need to avoid – here’s our edit of all the big Spring/Summer 2020 -2012 trends

1. Satin shirts

The ultra-close weave of satin helps it achieve that glossy, liquid surface it’s best known for. For Spring/Summer 2020 the menswear contingent has given the fabric a fresh new lease of life. Look to New York-based brand satin shirts for an easy route into the trend

2. Join a bowling team (or get a bowling shirt)

Silky, boxy, and complete with spread camp collars, this season’s billowing, short-sleeved bowling shirts were the order of London’s runways.

3. Go Sheer ( or to wear a sheer shirt)

Sheer jackets, sheer coats, and sheer shirts: it’s all about going see-through next summer season, the look was as sexy as it was soft.

4. An oversized Oxford shirt

The return of preppy dressing has been on the cards for some time now, but for Spring/Summer 2020 the trend reaches full tilt. it was the oversized, paneled Oxford shirts that provided the most creative take on the trend we’ve seen thus far. The bigger you wear yours, we reckon, the better.

5. It’s all about a co-ord ( two-piece set)

Over the past few summer seasons, the co-ord (basically a matching pairing of shorts and short-sleeved shirt) has become the go-to fashion summer get-up. Now, for SS20, the designers have reimagined the co-ord in a multitude of ways – from the matching denim jeans and jacket combos, matching sweatshirts and jogging shorts, matching silk shorts and shirts, matching pyjama bottoms and Cuban-collared shirts – next season the co-ord can be anything you want it to be (so long as it’s coordinated).

6. Pockets, pockets, and more pockets shirts

For Spring/Summer 2020 many-pocketed outerwear items are everywhere. The looks are very causal, many young people like it.

7. Ultra-extra animal print shirts

Animal print made a surprise return to the runways last season in the shape of shaggy leopard-print coats. Now, for Spring/Summer 2020, animal print is set to pounce back into fashion. From the silk tiger-stripe camp collar shirts to the leopard-print shirt to the zebra stripe shirts. The animal print trend continued in earnest in Paris too.

8. Double denim shirts

Denim had a major resurgence in both Paris and Milan. Most commonly worn in the form of double denim two pieces – think patchwork denim jeans and donkey-jackets, and denim suits. The best take on the look could be a pair of jeans and a denim shirt look.

9.Bleached overdyed and messed shirts

There was a general move toward punky, homespun, messed with fashion at the menswear shows this season.
